148 photographs: black and white; 8x10 in. Photos show African American soldiers from the pre-World War I United States military. Inlcudes reproductive prints of Revolutionary War illustrations and images from the War of 1812, the Civil War and the Spanish American War as well as portraits and group portraits of Buffalo Soldiers and cadets. Also includes publicity photos for "The Different Drummer" and a few prints of elderly Black people learning to read and write in classrooms during the 1930's. Of particular note are portraits of Medal of Honor recipients Brent Woods and Isaiah Mays, and portraits of West Point cadets John H. Alexander, Henry Flipper, and Charles Young.
