Title: Mass of the electron

Medium: Multimedia

Original Medium: Video

Date: 1959 (Copyright)

Original Summary:
Part of the "Physical Science Study Committee" series, this film demonstrates how "[u]sing a cathode ray tube encircled by a current-carrying loop of wire, measurements are taken which enable the demonstrator to calculate the mass of the electron. The steps followed in detail are: (1) finding the kinetic energy for each particle, (2) finding the force bending the stream of particles, (3) determining the strength of the magnetic field, (4) calculating the velocity of the electrons, (5) concluding the official value for the electron's mass. The final calculation of the experimental value for the mass is left to the viewers. Demonstration by Eric Rogers, Princeton University."--Summary from WorldCat
