Telephone pre-interview with Harry Briggs Sr. He discussed the state of the schools in Clarendon County, South Carolina before Brown v. Board of Education.  Briggs, Sr. signed a petition along with nineteen other parents to protest the lack of school buses for the African American schools. After the petition was ignored by the county, a suit was filed challenging segregation in schools. This case was Briggs v. Elliott and eventually reached the Supreme Court as part of the Brown v. Board of Education case. Briggs Sr. discussed the case, the effect on him and his family, his subsequent firing from his job and his move to Florida to find work.
